Matthew culminates his birth narrative of the coming Messiah with Mary and Joseph settling in Nazareth, thereby fulfilling the words of the prophets. Upon closer examination, this prophetic concept creates a climax for his story. The cryptic idea behind it resonated strongly in the hearts and hopes of every Jew waiting for the Messiah in the face of God’s long silence. And still today its implications call us to something very profound and personal in the nature of God that stirs our hearts to a deeper trust and more radical pursuit of our triumphant God. So, in those seasons of ours when it appears God is silent… think again!
