The crowds gathered just outside Jerusalem have been impacted by Jesus’ resurrection of Lazarus and anxiously praise Him. The event mirrors Psalm 118, but the crowd fails to realize what they are truly doing as they shout hosanna, or save us, to the king entering the city, who, in the psalm, heads to the temple’s altar. This too is the cry of the world unaware of what Jesus has done for them and the necessary cost of following Him to the altar.
